I went to a figure drawing workshop hosted by Al Razza a few days ago. My goal was to get better with the paint knife. To simplify my setup, I chose oil paints (so my palette wouldn't dry in the middle). I did 3 charcoal sketches with a technique called contour drawing that I didn't like at all, and 3 knife paintings. These are the last two, unretouched. The main challenge was time. But having limited time forced me to work fast which gave these knife paintings a lot of freshness and energy. In addition, using the paint knife added the roughness and the accidents which is what I love about paint knives. Al made me realize that I am missing a small size paint knife, which added to the challenge of painting the details of the face.
The last painting of the night. I wish the model had had long hair and slightly bigger breasts to get additional contrast in that area. In the end I had to add a little bulk of my own on my painting just to make her more feminine.

So you can see the progression, this was the second-to-last, I realized I was having trouble with the face details. But the body came out decent.
