I used a few techniques here. For the background I mixed heavy body with high-flow acrylics so the pigments would settle in the crevices of the heavy body. That added some texture to the soft gradients of the high-flow background. I added musical notes and blended them into the painting using a paint knife and a contrasting blue. Then I painted the violinist using a paint knife as well, leaving empty spots to achieve a broken see-through look. I then blended some areas that were too dark by adding some background color over them using mixing white for transparency.
