Horus the protector

The Egyptian god Horus as a falcon with open wings, protecting its kingdom, two pyramids in the foreground.

I wanted to imitate the texture and colors of an old fresco. So I used a greenish muted yellow, and a washed out teal for the background. I painted Horus using Sennelier Primary Red (a sort of Quinacridone Red) and Cadmium Red Orange with Venetian Red (similar to Red Iron Oxide). The goal was to mute down the colors. So the pyramids were done with Phthalo Blue RS and a little Phthalo Green BS, lightened with titanium white and muted with titanium buff. I did a lot of scraping and rubbing off to give it a weathered look.
