Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatchers are beautiful protective charms invented by native americans. They are called dreamcatchers because they catch dreams. The good dreams filter through the beads and feathers to the sleeping person. The nightmares are caught on the web and destroyed by the light of day.
This particular dreamcatcher is weaving a dream of horses. The red and yellow of the horse inside the teal circle is reflected in the color of the beads and feathers.

This painting incorporates a real dreamcatcher I weaved myself. The circle and web are done with leather and hemp cord. The center bead is a cabochon over a paint skin fragment. The beads are turquoise, quartzite rubies, imperial jasper, and dyed howlite.
